The Los Angeles earthquake of Sunday measured about 3.6 in the Richter Scale, and occurred at around 2:17 in the morning. It had originated eight miles deep, two miles away from the Redondo Beach, off the coast of Santa Monica. The earthquake, although not of a great magnitude, was felt in many areas, not only those towns in the coasts, but also in central Los Angeles. The residents reported that they had felt a very slight tremor when the quake struck, and although mild, the temblors were felt in a widespread area.
The scientists with the Geological Survey of the United States reported that there is no reason to panic if a quake the magnitude of the Los Angeles earthquake strikes the area, considering that they are not likely to be able to cause any damage, either to life or to property. Moreover, they also asserted that earthquakes of this magnitude are likely to be often felt in the area, which is n earthquake prone zone.
