Bangladesh police arrest 4 militant suspects

DHAKA, Bangladesh — Authorities say police have arrested four suspected Islamic militants in Bangladesh capital and seized bomb-making materials.

Bangladesh’s police chief Noor Mohammad says the suspects were arrested late Monday in a raid in Dhaka’s southern Dhania district.

Mohammad said police believe the men are top-ranking leaders of the banned radical Islamic group Jumatul Mujahideen Bangladesh.

He said police also seized explosives and bomb-making materials from the men.

Jumatul Mujahideen Bangladesh seeks to establish Islamic law in Muslim-majority Bangladesh and was blamed for countrywide bombings that killed at least 26 people and wounded dozens in 2005.
