NASHIK - A family of three committed suicide late Monday night in a village in Maharashtra’s Nashik distict, a police official Tuesday said.

The three - Anil Raghunath Jagtap, 33, his wife, Archana Jagtap, 30 and the couple’s five-year-old son Rohan jumped into a well in Chinchkhede village, located 30 km from Nashik off Mumbai-Agra Highway.

“The matter came to light Tuesday morning when the villagers saw the bodies and informed the police,” said L. Pardeshi, assistant inspector of Ozhar police station, under whose jurisdiction Chinchkhede village falls.

“The family resided in Nashik and had come on a pilgrimage to Chandwad village, which is nearby. They had stayed back last night in Chinchkhede,” he added.

“The bodies are at the Pimpalgaon Civil Hospital. The post-mortem examination report confirmed their deaths due to drowning. We are also trying to find the reason for their suicide by speaking to family and friends,” Pardeshi said.
