RANCHI - The mother of Delhi-based journalist Nirupama Pathak, who was allegedly killed for her relationship with a man from different caste, Thursday moved a bail application in Jharkhand’s Koderma district court.

Sudha Pathak’s petition was filed in court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) N.K. Agrawal and the hearing is likely to take place Friday.

Sudha was arrested May 3 on charges of murder after her daughter Nirupama was found dead in her home April 29.

The family members insist that Nirupama committed suicide but her boyfriend Priyabhanshu Ranjan alleges that she was killed as the family was against their relationship.

Jharkhand police interrogated Ranjan and his friends in New Delhi. A case of rape and murder has also been filed against Ranjan on the directions of the court.

Niruapama’s autopsy report has also added to the confusion on the cause of death. Doctors who conducted the post-mortem examination say it was a case of murder but they have failed establish how Nirupama was murdered.

The report said Nirupama was 10-12 weeks pregnant at the time of her death.

The police Wednesday submitted their investigation progress report to Jharkhand police chief Neyaz Ahmad.
