SYDNEY - Sydney Police have locked up a woman on assault charges after she slapped her daughter who called her a bitch after an argument at the Chatswood station here.

When Colleen Gudmann learned police had found her drunken 16-year-old daughter trying to use fake ID to get into a pub, she went to the station to collect her, but things quickly got worse.

Police arrested her after she argued with her daughter Victoria, who lashed out at her mother, calling her a bitch, Australia’s The Sunday Telegraph reported.

By night’s end, the Northbridge hairdresser was locked up on an assault charge - all for exercising what she says was normal parental discipline.

Gudmann says she did what most parents would in her situation: she gave Victoria a small slap on the cheek to pull her into line. The Nov 6 drama was the first time Gudmann had set foot in a police station.

Victoria added: “I just wanted to go home with my mum - I wanted to see her. We were all so stressed out. It really sucked.”

Chatswood police duty officer Stefan Kent said striking a child’s face was assault. “She assaulted her in the charge room, in front of police.”
