Body of missing kayaker found along Kentucky river

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Rescuers have found the body of a kayaker in Kentucky who had been missing since Monday.

Friday’s discovery marks the fifth death in Kentucky and the 31st in the South from last weekend’s flooding.

Hart County Coroner Jeff Roten says the body of 55-year-old Robert Atcher was found about six miles downriver from where Atcher started his kayaking trip on the flooded Green River.

Authorities Atcher’s kayak hit a logjam and the current pulled him under.

Search teams are still looking for an 18-year-old high school student who went kayaking on Lake Cumberland on Wednesday. They located a body Friday, but have been unable to retrieve it.
