RANCHI -Unidentified criminals looted Rs.24.5 lakh in two separate incidents in Ranchi, police said Monday.

The first incident took place in the Main Road area of Ranchi when four unidentified criminals looted Rs.23 lakh from employees of the Punjab National Bank (PNB). The employees were on their way to deposit money at PNB ATM in the area.

The criminals arrived on bikes and put revolvers to the heads of the employees. Two employees sustained bullet injuries in the ensuing scuffle, while the criminals made away with the money.

The injured employees were admitted to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Institute (RIMS), Ranchi, where their condition is stated to be serious.

The security guard of the ATM has been detained for interrogation.

Police have got some clues and are conducting raids to nab the criminals. “It seems that the criminals were aware of the area and had information regarding timing when the money is deposited in the ATM,” a police official said.

“We are conducting raids at a few places and will arrest the criminals soon,” the official added.

In the other incident, two bike-riding criminals looted Rs.1.5 lakh from a person after throwing chilli powder in his eyes near the Tapovan temple at Niwaranpur.
