Income tax officer nabbed for taking Rs.1.50 crore bribe

MUMBAI - The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has nabbed an Income Tax Additional Commissioner and her husband for accepting a bribe of Rs.1.50 crore, a top official said here Saturday.

IT Additional Commissioner (Circle III-Thane) Sumitra Banerjee’s husband Subroto accepted the bribe on her behalf, CBI Western Region Director Rishi Raj Singh told mediapersons here.

The duo was nabbed Friday from Mulund in northeast Mumbai where the CBI sleuths had laid a trap for them.

They were presented before a court this morning and remanded to CBI custody till April 27, he said.
