Baby with throat slit found in trash can

BEIJING - A newborn baby with his throat slit has been found in a trash can in China’s Guangdong province, a media report said Thursday.
The baby, who is in a critical condition, remains on a respirator at a hospital in Sanshui district in Guangdong, China Daily reported.
“The baby is not yet out of danger, despite a successful operation that lasted for more than two hours,” a doctor named Li was quoted as saying Wednesday.
The infant was only a few hours old when he was found abandoned at the Sanshui Huaxia hotel at about 12.30 a.m. Monday and was immediately taken to hospital.
A 19-year-old woman named Zhou was detained in this connection and admitted being the mother of the baby, police said.
Zhou, a native of Xiangyin county in Hunan province confessed before police that she had wounded her son before abandoning him, they said.
The baby was found to have seven to eight wounds caused by a sharp, pointed object in his neck and chest when he was sent to the hospital, Li said, adding that the baby will need at least a week to pull out of danger.
Meanwhile, Sanshui district’s women federation and the local civil affairs department have jointly opened a bank account for people to donate money to help the baby.
