CHANDIGARH - In a rare decision, a minor boy held guilty for attempting to rape a four-year-old girl was Tuesday directed by a Haryana juvenile court to serve water at a bus stand in Jhajjar, 225 km from here, for one-year as punishment.

Principal judge of juvenile justice board Harish Gupta said the convicted boy would undergo the punishment under the supervision of the bus stand in-charge from April 25. The boy was also directed to deposit a security of Rs.10,000 with the board.

The case of attempt to rape against the minor boy, a resident of Jhajjar, was registered March 7, 2002, on the complaint of the victim’s grand-mother, police said.

Assistant district attorney Kiran Chaudhary pleaded before the juvenile justice board to award a stringent punishment to the boy.

This crime is of serious nature and such kinds of incidents are considerably increasing in the society. To curb the tendency to commit such heinous crimes, stringent punishment should be awarded to criminals, said Chaudhary during the argument.

As per the verdict, the boy will serve water at Jhajjar bus stand for one year without any holiday. He has been instructed to report to the bus stand in-charge April 25, 2010.
