UK: Hundreds of pet guinea pigs killed in fire
LONDON — British police say more than 1,000 animals — mostly guinea pigs — have died after a fire at a pet breeding center in southwest England.
Devon and Cornwall Police say officers were called to a serious fire at the facility in Lewdown, Devon, early Tuesday.
Police said the center is used for breeding pets.
A spokesman said the fire killed more than 1,000 animals. He said it was not immediately clear what caused the fire, and that police are investigating.
Devon is about 225 miles (362 kilometers) southwest of London.
