CHANDIGARH - A students’ union leader of Panjab University (PU) Monday filed a complaint against unidentified persons for allegedly burning his two cars parked in front of his house here.

According to police, Udey Wirring, president of the Panjab University Students’ Union (PUSU), has filed a complaint against some unknown persons who burnt his SUV Pajero and Maruti Esteem car.

We have received this complaint but so far we have not registered an FIR as our investigation is still under process. We had called forensic experts on the spot and their report is awaited, said Sukhbir Rana, station house officer of Sector 11.

Last week some miscreants had opened fire at Udey, his cousin and his father outside their house here. Following this, the crime branch of Chandigarh police had arrested two leaders of the Students Organisation of Panjab University (SOPU), a rival students’ political party of PU.

The incident happened just 200 metres from the Sector 11 police station and around two-and-half km from the Chandigarh police headquarters.

Udey and his family members complained of police inaction.

The Pajero has been burnt completely whereas the Esteem burnt around 30 percent. Neither police nor the fire brigade officials reached the spot in time. We have given them the names of all accused and they are roaming freely in the PU campus but police are not taking note of this, said Bhupinder Singh, Udey’s father.
