LIMA - At least 13 people died when the bus they were travelling in fell into the Peruvian part of Lake Titicaca, in the Andes, Peruvian radio station RPP reported.

According to RPP, the vehicle was still inside the world’s highest-altitude lake Monday, on the border between Peru and Bolivia, and the death toll was likely to rise further.

Specialized rescue teams were reportedly not yet in the area, and people living nearby were carrying out efforts to find survivors.

Initial reports on the bus said only that it was headed for the town of Juliaca, near Lake Titicaca.
