Magnitude-4.5 quake, others shake San Diego area
SANTA ANA, Calif. — A moderate earthquake near the U.S.-Mexico border rattled parts of Imperial and San Diego counties as a swarm of seismic activity continues nearly a week after a magnitude-7.2 quake slammed the area.
The U.S. Geological Survey says the magnitude-4.5 quake hit at 2:12 a.m. Saturday, about 16 miles west southwest of Calexico.
No damage or injuries have been reported.
More than a dozen quakes above magnitude-3.0 hit later in the day, including one at magnitude-3.7 shortly before noon.
Seismologists canceled a report of a second magnitude-4.5 quake, blaming the reading on a computer glitch.
Officials say the quake that shook Calexico and Mexicali, Mexico, last Sunday killed two people and caused an estimated $100 million in damage to California alone. Mexican damage estimates were not yet available.
