CHANDIGARH - Chandigarh police Friday evening arrested two leaders of a students’ organisation of Panjab University (PU) here, accused of attacking another student leader and his family members.

The two had fired at least a dozen rounds at Uday Singh Wirrang, his father Bhupinder Singh and his cousin Gurbaz Singh outside their house in Sector 11 late Wednesday night. Uday is the president of the Panjab University Students’ Union (PUSU).

Police said they had arrested Vikramjeet Singh alias Vicky and Arshdeep Singh aka Robin Brar from a bridge near Khuda Lahora village here and recovered a home-made point .12 pistol from them.

Police also seized the jeep in which they were going.

“We had laid a trap after getting a tip-off. Both the accused are natives of different villages in Mukatsar district in Punjab and are studying in Chandigarh. Vicky is the president of Students Organization of Panjab University (SOPU) party,” a police official said.

Police said they were on the track of the other accused.
