PUNE - Two army soldiers have been arrested for allegedly raping a 19-year-old girl here, police said Friday.

The girl belongs to a village on the outskirts of the city. A police official said the girl was going with a friend when two army jawans accosted her and allegedly committed the crime.

The army men belong to the Rajputana Regiment of the Indian Army and have been identified as Rajneeshkumar Suresh Chandra and Sumindarsingh Mahipal Singh, he added.

They were placed under arrest Friday morning and presented in a court. They have been sent in police remand till April 12.

This is the second instance of a gang rape in the city in the past one week.

Last Friday, a 25-year-old married woman was gang raped by three people in Hinjewadi, a Pune suburb. Police have arrested three people so far and the case will be transferred to a fast-track court.
