Eight killed, 20 injured in Orissa accident

BHUBANESWAR - Eight people, including two women, were killed and more than 20 injured Friday when a mini-truck carrying a marriage party met with an accident in Orissa’s Sundergarh district, police said.

The crash occurred when the mini-truck, carrying a marriage party from Suruguda village of Banai area, collided with an oncoming coal-laden speeding truck at the by-pass in Sundergarh. The truck was on its way to Jhargaon village of Sundergarh, about 400 km from here.

“Three people of the marriage party were killed on the spot and one died on way to hospital,” Sundergarh Superintendent of Police Deepak Kumar told IANS.

Six people sustained mortal injuries in the mishap. Of them, four died in the hospital while undergoing treatment.

At least 20 people have sustained injuries and are undergoing treatment in a Sundergarh hospital. There were more than 40 people in the truck.
