Haitian orphans’ quick entry to US to end
WASHINGTON — The Homeland Security Department says it is ending a program that allowed orphaned Haitian children not yet adopted to come to the U.S.
The department says Haiti’s government has asked the U.S. for a final list of orphans whose adoptions are pending.
DHS says that on April 14, it will stop considering new orphans to be “paroled” into the U.S. It will return to processing the adoptions as it did before the magnitude-7 earthquake devastated Haiti, when adoptions had to be completed before the child could come to the U.S.
