SAN DIEGO (GaeaTimes.com)- The massive earthquake that struck the Southern California and San Diego region on Sunday resulted in huge loss of property and infrastructure. Two people reportedly died in the quake and more than 200 were wounded. The quake was a severe one as it reached the scale of 7.2 on the Richter scale. The quake left deep crates on the road and several of residential buildings and hospitals developed deep cracks. It created panic among the residents who have still not returned to their homes fearing that they may collapse. The US geological survey predicted that the quake was so powerful that it may cause subsequent quakes. The region was struck by a number of aftershocks.

The claim of the US Geological survey proved to be true on Monday and another quake hit Mexicali. Felipe Caldern, the President of Mexico was at the town at that time. He addressed the victims of the government and assured that his government would take adequate steps to compensate them. He issued orders to build makeshift shelters for the people who have been rendered homeless by the severe quake in San Diego. He also went to the General Hospital of Mexicali to see the victims of the quake.

He was accompanied by the Communications and Transport minister, Social Development minister as well as governor Jose Guadalupe Osuna Millan. The American Red Cross is playing a major role in relief operations. It is giving away food, pure water and other relief materials to the quake victims of San Diego. The disaster experts are assessing the damage now.
