RAIPUR - A Chhattisgarh Police officer Sunday accidentally shot two of his colleagues when he pressed the trigger of his service revolver while cleaning the weapon, an official said. The victims are in a critical condition.

The incident took place at Keshkal police station in Maoist-affected Bastar district, some 200 km south of capital Raipur.

“ASI (assistant sub-inspector) Pankaj Khandekar unintentionally pressed the trigger of his service revolver while cleaning it. Two bullets of the revolver hit his two colleagues - ASI G. Ansari and constable Jitendra Singh Thakur,” Bastar’s Superintendent of Police P. Sundaraj told reporters.

Ansari, who was hit in the stomach and Thakur, who was hit in the waist, were first taken to a local hospital and then airlifted to Raipur in critical condition, he added.
