LUCKNOW - Four drug peddlers, who operated in several states, have been arrested with heroin worth over Rs.1 crore in Uttar Pradesh’s Sonbhadra district, police said Thursday.
“The men, who operated in Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and parts of Uttar Pradesh, were nabbed Wednesday evening in Pipri town. They were going to hand over a drugs consignment to some of their clients,” police inspector Vijaymal Yadav told reporters in Sonbhadra, about 350 km from Lucknow.
“The four men admitted that they have been in the business for the last five years and also had clients in Nepal,” he added.
According to police, they were residents of Uttar Pradesh and gave vital clues that will help unearth the illegal trade in some parts of the state.
“As per their inputs, most groups involved in illegal supply of drugs are based in parts of eastern Uttar Pradesh,” Yadav said.
They were booked under multiple sections of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, he added.
