BHUBANESWAR - An attempt to create a smoke screen for a play scene went horribly wrong when the explosive material used went off killing one person and injuring a dozen more in Orissa’s Nayagarh district, police said Wednesday.

The explosion occurred when a member of a drama troupe was trying to create smoke by burning explosives for a scene in Petapali village.

“There was a drama show in the village. A troupe member burnt explosive material for a love scene,” said police officer Manoranjan Mohanty.

Four of the injured are in critical condition, he said.
