BHOPAL - A woman was set afire by her neighbours in a Madhya Pradesh village after they accused her of stealing Rs.1,000, police said Tuesday.

Seema Sen, 28, was Monday evening passing by the house of her neighbour Vishram Thakur when his wife Rani alleged that Seema had stolen Rs.1,000 from her house. A heated argument ensued following which the couple entered Seema’s house, doused her kerosene and set her afire.

She was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital where her condition is said to be critical.

“The police has registered a case of attempt to murder against the couple who is now absconding,”, Additional Superintendent of Police Atul Singh said.

Investigations into the case are on.
