BEIJING - At least 21 foetuses and bodies of babies have been found in a river in China, which led authorities to suspend the medical staff at a hospital.
The bodies were found Monday by local residents and firemen under a bridge over the Guangfu river in the outskirts of Jining city. Eight of the bodies had tabs with clinic code numbers attached to their feet, which showed they were from the hospital of Jining Medical University, Xinhua news agency reported.
“The hospital medical staff involved have been suspended from their work,” Zhong Haitao, a spokesman at the Jining Health Bureau was quoted as saying.
Meanwhile, another media report Tuesday said the bodies may have been dumped by cleaners from local hospitals after abortions and induced labour.
