BHOPAL - In an incident straight from the famous Bollywood blockbuster “Sholay”, two teenagers took on a dreaded dacoit, enabling villagers to beat him to death in Chhattarpur district of Madhya Pradesh.

According to the police, Radhey Patel, whose gang was involved in extortion and abduction, Wednesday held a farmer in Bakswah village captive in front of villagers, who stood there helpless.

He then asked Ram Kumar, 15, and Ram Krishan, 16, who were standing nearby, to go get Rs.50,000 from the farmer’s family to secure his release.

To everybody’s surprise, the two teenagers fell on their knees pretending to beg for mercy but in the flash of a second grabbed and pulled the dacoit’s leg.

As if on cue, the villagers sprang on the dacoit, overpowering him in seconds. They then beat him to death.

It all happened so swiftly that the other gang members stood confused, unsure what to do. When the villagers cheered after the dacoit’s death and charged towards them, the gang members fled.

Confirming the incident, Inspector General Anvesh Manglam told IANS that the police would recommend the names of the two boys for gallantry award.

In the movie “Sholay”, dacoit Gabbar Singh asks actors Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra to apologise to him by touching his feet. Amitabh complies and bends to do so. But instead of touching the dacoit’s feet, he throws Holi colours on him, virtually blinding him in the cloud of dust.
