152 trapped in flooded coal mine in China

TAIYUAN - At least 152 workers were trapped after a coal mine in north China’s Shanxi province flooded Sunday, authorities said.

About 260 workers were in the pit of Wangjialing Coal Mine when water gushed in at about 2.30 p.m., Xinhua reported quoting the provincial work safety supervision administration.

At least 109 workers escaped unharmed while 152 remained trapped in the shaft, according to the provincial emergency response office.

The mine in Xiangning county of Linfen city covers about 180 square kilometers.
