PHAGWARA - The passengers of a Lahore-bound ‘Sada-e-Sarhad’ peace bus between India and Pakistan had a narrow escape Friday when the bus hit a road divider in this industrial town of Punjab.

The bus hit the divider as the driver tried to save two motorcyclists who had fallen on the Ludhiana-Jalandhar section of National Highway No.1 after their vehicle skidded.

“The bus driver tried to save a youth and a woman on the motorcycle who had fallen on the road. At this, the bus hit the divider,” police officer S.S. Bal said.

However, there was not much damage to the bus and it was able to resume its journey to the Attari-Wagah border between both countries, 30 km from Amritsar, after a 10 minute delay.

The bus, which ferries passengers from both countries, gets a police pilot and escort all along its 550 km journey from Delhi to Attari border.
