Salt bin collapses at upstate NY mine, killing 1
LANSING, N.Y. — Authorities say a bin that loads salt collapsed onto two men near a salt mine in upstate New York, killing one and injuring the other.
The Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office says the bin collapsed about 6:30 Wednesday at the Cargill Salt Mine in Lansing.
The identities of the men have not been released. Authorities are still investigating.
Cargill spokesman Mark Klein says the accident happened above ground. He says the company is working with authorities to figure out what happened.
The mine mainly produces salt for roads. It is located on the shores of Cayuga Lake in the Finger Lakes region of the state.
