PATNA - Sixteen lakh girl students from government schools in Bihar will be taught judo and karate for self-defence.

A day after Chief Minister Nitish Kumar made the announcement at the Bihar Divas celebration Monday, many girls were upbeat Tuesday.

“It is a positive move by the government,” Rajni Kumari, a Class 8 student of Bankipur high school, told IANS.

Shahnaz Farooqui of a high school in Phulwarisharief said: “It will make us more confident to take on trouble-makers.”

Nitish Kumar said the government wanted to empower girl students. “The girls could then counter eve-teasers.”
