BHOPAL - Hundreds of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) activists clashed with police here Tuesday during a rally to press for students’ union elections and slashing of fees.

The activists were marching from the Dussehra ground towards the state assembly when they were stopped by police.

“The activists did not stop, forcing the police to use force. The police fired tear gas when the activists stoned us,” said a police officer.

Though the Madhya Pradesh high court has directed the government to hold students’ union elections, the government has not yet responded, ABVP state secretary Bharti Kumbhare said.

“We are also against growing commercialization of education in Madhya Pradesh,” she added.
