NAWANSHAHAR - Three Punjab policemen were killed while two others sustained serious injuries in a road accident on the Nawanshahar-Jalandhar highway Monday, police said.

According to police, a mini-bus, in which the policemen were travelling, collided with an oil tanker coming from the wrong side. The tanker was empty otherwise it could have led to a major tragedy.

“The accident happened near Dhane Klara village as the police bus was going to Chandigarh from Kapurthala. The deceased were identified as assistant sub-inspector Kuldeep Singh, constable Ghumman Singh and woman constable Raj Rani,” Nawanshahar’s Senior Superintendent of Police Narender Bhargava told IANS.

He said the two injured - Surinder Pal and Malkit Singh - were admitted in a hospital and doctors said that the condition of one of them was very serious.

Nawanshahar is around 180 km from Chandigarh.
