RAIPUR - Three people were arrested in Chhattisgarh’s Bilaspur town for running a betting racket for the Indian Premier League (IPL) matches, police said Saturday.

The three were caught Friday night in Bilaspur town, some 100 km from here, and were identified as Govind Ram, 30, Harpal, 32, and Srichand Chawla, 41, an official said.

“The three were arrested following a tip-off. They had put Rs.650,000 as gambling amount on IPL matches when we picked them up from a room in Chakarbhata area,” Ashish Wasnik, the police official who led the operation, told IANS.

A television, four mobile phones, some documents and cash were seized from the trio, who confessed that they had been running the cricket betting racket for the past two years.
