Ind. woman accused of setting fire to 2 dogs

FRANKLIN, Ind. — A central Indiana woman accused of dousing her two dogs with gasoline and setting them on fire because they bit her faces two felony counts of animal cruelty.

Court documents say 36-year-old Katherine Brotherton of Franklin told police she was trying to kill her dogs.

Brotherton was being held Friday on $6,000 bond. According to the Johnson County prosecutor’s office, records do not list an attorney for her. A hearing has been scheduled for Wednesday.

Brotherton is accused of putting her 5-year-old dog and 6-month-old puppy in a plastic drum on March 9, pouring gas on them and using a lighter to set them on fire. Her mother called police.

Workers at the Johnson County Animal Shelter say the dogs are recovering and in remarkably good shape despite their burns.
