26 killed as bus falls over bridge

JAIPUR - Twenty six people, including 11 women, were killed and 34 injured early Monday when a bus fell over a bridge into a river in Rajasthan’s Sawai Madhopur district, police said.

The bus was carrying about 60 students and staff of Mother India Teacher Training College, Jhalawar.

The bus was on its way back from a picnic in Mathura and Vrindavan in Uttar Pradesh.

The accident took place about 50 km from Sawai Madhopur.

“The incident occurred at around 3.30 a.m. when a bus of a teacher training school fell over the bridge in the Morel river. Rescue operations are going on and as of now we have recovered 26 bodies,” Superintendent of Police Vikas Kumar told IANS on the phone.

The injured have been admitted to a local government hospital.
