GHAZIABAD - A woman was arrested here Saturday for allegedly stealing jewellery from highend outlets along with her male accomplice, who is still at large, police said.

The duo was identified as Babli Shahnaaz alias Bano, 42, and her brother-in-law Sajid Ali, 30.

Senior Superintendent of Police Raghuvir Lal said: Sajid and Shahnaaz struck at highend jewellery outlets and mostly operated as a couple.

In a planned manner, they would go to big jewellery outlets around lunchtime, when most of the sales staff was not around, Lal added.

They would asked the staff to show them diamond sets. After engaging the salesmen, the duo would pocket jewellery items spread out before them on the store counter, he said.

On Feb 14, the couple struck at the jewellery store owned by Ghaziabad Mayor Damyanti Goels daughter Himadri Agarwal at the busy Ambedkar Road.

They had also stolen a gold chain Feb 8 from another jewellery showroom at MMX Mall in Sahibabad, police said.

Both Sajid and Bano were living in Saharanpur and were originally from Dhampur in Bijnore district of Uttar Pradesh. Banos husband Naseem alias Mota had also been in jail for several theft cases committed in Muzzafarnagar, Lal said.
