Firing in Delhi, three robbers held

NEW DELHI - Three robbers were arrested Saturday after a gunfight with police personnel in east Delhi’s Bhola Nath Nagar, authorities said.
“Five people came from Meerut to rob a bank here. Police were tipped off about the people coming with this motive. The gunfight started after robbers fired on a police party at 12 noon,” a police officer said.
“In the encounter between robbers and the central district-special staff, as many as 15 rounds were exchanged between us. The robbers belonged to the Gulu Jaat Gang,” the officer said.
According to police, one robber was injured and two - Sandeep and Danny - were nabbed. The remaining two robbers, including the gang leader Gulu, were absconding.
A constable was also injured.
“The robbers first opened fire on the police; in the exchange of fire, one criminal was hit in the leg,” an eyewitness said.
The injured are undergoing treatment at the Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital.
