3 killed by NJ, NY trains in separate accidents

TRENTON, N.J. — Authorities say three people were fatally struck by trains in New Jersey and New York.

The first death occurred in Mercer County in New Jersey on Thursday morning when Amtrak’s Keystone 642 train hit a person near the Hamilton Township station.

The second accident occurred in New York City when a 48-year-old woman was crushed by a subway train on Thursday afternoon.

Police spokesman Paul Browne says authorities believe she may have climbed down to retrieve a bag on the tracks.

And on Thursday evening, a man was struck by a New Jersey Transit commuter train near the East Orange station.

The accidents caused travel delays, but no one aboard the trains was hurt.

It’s unclear why the two people in New Jersey were on the tracks. None of the victims’ identities have been released.
