CHANDIGARH - A Delhi resident was Tuesday booked by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Chandigarh police for allegedly duping a man here of Rs.41 lakh on the pretext of securing admissions for his sons in a medical course.
Palas Ram Sharma, a resident of Sector-34 here, registered a complaint against Piyush Bharat Saini of Delhi, alleging that Saini had taken Rs.41 lakh but did not arrange for the admission of his sons to a MBBS course in the 2009-10 session, a police official said.
Palas had accused Saini of taking Rs.41 lakh on the assurance that he will arrange for the admission of his two sons in an MBBS course in a reputed institute either in Delhi or in Chandigarh. But he did not keep his promise and later refused to return the money, Prem Kumar, an inspector in EOW, told IANS.
We have booked Saini under Section 420 of the IPC (cheating) and started our investigation. We have sent our team to Delhi to nab the accused, he said.
He took the money in advance and told me to wait…Later he said that the admission procedure was under process. After waiting for long, I demanded my money back but he refused to do so, then I approached the police, Sharma said.
