Probe ordered into naval aircraft crash

HYDERABAD - The Indian government Wednesday ordered a probe into the crash of an Indian Naval aircraft during an air show here, which killed the pilot and his co-pilot.
The other aircraft in the formation landed safely, a statement by the defence ministry said.
“During an aerobatic display by the navy’s Sagar Pawan aerobatic team, a Kiran Mk II crashed in Hyderabad. The pilots, Commander S.K. Maurya and Lieutenant Commander Rahul Nair, were killed in the crash. Both pilots were based at Goa,” it said.
“A board of inquiry is being ordered to investigate into the circumstances leading to the crash,” the statement said.
The aircraft crashed into a building near the Begumpet airport here. Four civilians on the ground were also injured in the crash.
The aircraft were participating in the air show soon after the inaugural ceremony of India Aviation 2010, the country’s international aviation exhibition and conference, at the airport.
