BHUBANESWAR - A trooper of the Special Operation Group (SOG) shot himself with his service rifle in his room in Orissa’s Keonjhar district, police said Wednesday.

Rakesh Kumar Sethi committed suicide Tuesday night in the Armed Reserve Police barrack, about 230 km from here, while his colleagues were watching TV after dinner. Sethi, who received bullets in his neck and head, was found in a pool of blood with his AK-47 rifle on his chest.

“We recovered his dead body in a pool of blood with his rifle on his chest… But the exact reason for the suicide is not yet known as he used to be very sincere in his work,” said G.C. Tripathy, additional superintendent of police, Keonjhar.

Last month, an SOG trooper had committed suicide after being denied leave in Gajapati district.
