Moonshine kills five in Ghaziabad

GHAZIABAD - Five people died and six lost their eyesight after drinking spurious liquor in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad district, police said Wednesday.

About 15 more fell ill, a police officer said.

After the report of deaths, police have seized 25 bottles of liquor from Tukki Sharma, a resident of Dahna Bevli here. “The contents have been sent for forensic examination,” the police officer said.

“After finding out about the illegal activities in the area, the Ghaziabad SSP (Senior Superintendent of Police) suspended Simbhaoli police station SHO (Station House Officer). Extensive search operation is being conducted in the area to fish out stocks and criminals,” Superintendent of Police (Rural) M.M. Baig said.

Six people died and 27 fell ill after drinking spurious liquor here Feb 26.
