CHILE (GaeaTimes.com)- The devastating earthquake that rocked Chile on Saturday wrecked havoc with the public life and with time the death toll is only going up. It has been learnt that the severe earthquake had a magnitude of 8.8 on the Richter scale. It made a mess of the region and was followed by a strong tsunami that washed out villages located on the pacific coast of the country. This is the second devastating natural calamity after the Haiti Earthquake that hit a month back. As per the latest updates on Chile Earthquake facts and figures, the death count stands at 700 though it may go up.
When the news of the Chile quake was released by the media, the death count was just 122. However, everyone expected that the figures will go up with time and exactly that is happening. It is expected that the death figures will not reach close to the Haiti quake. Apart from the death and injury, other massive problem plaguing the region is incidents of widespread looting. It is often seen that after a place is struck by natural calamity the people residing in the area get scared of the scarcity of food and essential commodities and riot and looting incidents take place.
