PATNA - A 22-year-old woman died after a doctor allegedly removed her kidneys during surgery, her family said Thursday.

Sabila Khatoon, mother of a six-month-old baby, died at Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) Wednesday night.

A resident of Tangaul Patti in Bihar’s Hajipur district, about 30 km from here, Sabila was admitted at the PMCH in early February after her condition deteriorated following a surgery for stone in a kidney.

Doctors at the PMCH found that both her kidneys had been removed and immediately put her on dialysis.

“Sabila died as both her kidneys were removed by a surgeon, Parveen Kumar, at his clinic in Hajipur,” the victim’s father-in-law Mohammad Jameel told IANS on phone.

Jameel said that he was stunned when an ultrasound test found that both her kidneys were missing.

“It was shocking because the first ultrasound test conducted before the operation had shown that both her kidneys were intact,” he said.

Earlier, after locals raised a hue and cry about the incident, the district administration ordered a civil surgeon to probe the matter and submit a report.

Sabila’s family lodged an FIR against Kumar for allegedly removing both her kidneys.

Currently, Kumar is lodged in Beur jail.
