LUCKNOW - At least four students were critically injured in a bomb explosion near their school in Uttar Pradesh’s Kaushambhi district Tuesday, police said. Officials ruled out any terror angle in the incident.

The four students of the Mother India Public School in Kaushambhi are being treated in a hospital in Allahabad.

“Though the blast was an intense one, we can ascertain the exact nature of the bomb only after an enquiry is conducted by the Bomb Disposal Squad and forensic experts,” inspector M.P. Verma told reporters in Kaushambhi, some 250 km from Lucknow.

“The explosion took place in the afternoon outside the school in Kaushambhi’s Karari town. At that time, the students were playing there,” he said.

Police said those injured are in the six-eight years age-group.

While the police have ruled out any terror angle behind the blast, a man has been detained in connection with the incident.

“Interrogations are on,” Verma added.
