LUCKNOW - The daughter of a businessman was kidnapped Monday from Mall Avenue, one of the upscale colonies of Lucknow, which also houses bungalows of several ministers, including Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati.

Ana, a Class 10 student of the renowned Loreto Convent School here, was kidnapped Monday evening from her residence. Posing as employees of a courier agency, the kidnappers visited Ana’s residence on Mall Avenue, police said.

“Deputy inspector general of police (DIG), Lucknow range, is himself probing the matter,” Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Brij Lal told reporters here.

DIG (Lucknow Range) Rajiv Krishna said: “Two car-borne men came to Ana’s residence and abducted her.”

“It appears it’s a case of old rivalry,” said Krishna.

“The abductors had left a letter that directs the girl’s family members not to approach the police if they want to keep Ana alive,” he added.

Ana’s father Junaid Ahmad owns several orchards in Malihabad area of Lucknow.
