LUCKNOW - A judge in Uttar Pradesh’s Sonbhadra district had a narrow escape Saturday when some unidentified men barged into his residence and opened fire at him, police said.

Additional District and Session Judge A.K. Dwivedi, based in Sonbhadra district, some 250 km from Lucknow, who was in the news in January for giving life imprisonment to 13 policemen for killing two men, managed to escape the attack.

“The unidentified men fired two shots at the judge, who also retaliated and shot at them with his licensed gun. Before the judge could inform the police, the men managed to escape,” Sonbhadra district police chief Pritendra Singh told reporters.

“Though the judge registered a case in this regard, he was not sure about the exact number of men who barged into his home and attacked him. On the basis of the physical description of the assailants provided by the judge, we are carrying out raids to nab the culprits,” he added.
