17 killed, 20 injured in Bengal accident

KOLKATA - At least 17 people were killed and 20 injured when a speeding bus collided with a truck in West Bengal’s North Dinajpur district Thursday, police said.

The accident occurred near Karandighi in the district.

“Altogether 17 people were killed and 20 injured in the accident,” a police officer posted at Karandighi police station told IANS by phone.

He said the injured had already been moved to the nearest hospital.

“Some passengers were critically injured,” he said, adding the accident took place because of reckless driving.
