Cricketer’s murderer shot dead in Uttar Pradesh

LUCKNOW - A criminal, allegedly involved in the murder of under-19 cricketer Gagandeep Singh and over a dozen other serious crimes, was shot dead by police in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr district Monday.
“Ankit Chauhan, who carried a reward of Rs.30,000, was shot dead after he opened fire at a police team, which tried to stop the car in which he and his accomplices were travelling,” Superintendent of Police Neelesh Kumar told reporters in Bulandshahr, some 400 km from Lucknow.
“However, Chauhan’s accomplices managed to escape. Raids are being carried out to arrest them,” he added.
A police inspector, who shot dead Chauhan, received bullet injuries in the gunfight. He is being treated in a hospital and is out of danger.
According to police, Chauhan and his accomplices had killed Singh in Meerut Oct 9 after a quarrel over snacks.
