CHENNAI - A woman was arrested Sunday for killing her two step-children in Tamil Nadu’s Namakkal town, police said.

Shakthivel and Shalini, both aged eight, were drowned by Amala in a water tank Sunday morning, fearing that her own children will not get any share in her husband’s property.

The father, Nehru, is a driver with the State Transport Undertaking. He was first married to Saraswathi. The couple did not have children for 15 years and then they adopted Shakthivel.

Subsequently Saraswathi gave birth to Shalini. Soon after that she died and Nehru married Amala.

The couple then had two children — a girl and a boy aged three and two years respectively.

During interrogation, Amala confessed that she had killed the two children.

Namakkal is some 350 km from here.
