LUCKNOW - The Lucknow police Thursday arrested a man found carrying fake euros of face value one million.

Vijay Kumar, 29, was nabbed when he fished out euros at an Archies outlet for payment.

According to police, Kumar came from Faizabad in the hope of floating the fake currency in the market.

“The counterfeit currency was detected by the accountant at the Archies gallery in Kapurthala Market here, following which he informed the police and they promptly swung into action and took Kumar into custody,” an official said.

According to police, “Vijay Kumar revealed that the currency was passed on to him by someone in Faizabad.”

Kumar owns a petrol pump in Faizabad and his business was stated to be on the verge of closure. He was desperate to get out of the financial distress, police said.

While a case was registered against him in Lucknow, a police team has been rushed to Faizabad to track down the person who had given him the fake foreign currency.
